Objectives of the Course
|
The objective of this course is to develop translation student's competence in sight translation and take the first steps into interpreting studies. This course could be considered as a preliminary to the simultaneous and consecutive interpreting course. In this course, which requires using many skills such as speed reading, good communication, selective perception, comprehension and expression, the student learns to use advanced mind skills.

Course Content
|
In this course, students will develop their skills in sight translation. Students work on terminology on different topics by using sight translation strategies such as paraphrasing, expanding, narrowing, parsing, and chunking on various topics. We will do many sight translation practices on different topics within the scope of this course.

Course Methods and Techniques
|
Attendance is a must. There is an absence limit of 30 % of the total course hours (which is 12 hours) in a term. The students who will exceed the limit will automatically fail. Partial absence or lateness of 15 minutes or more will be counted as a full class absence. The students should participate in all the activities done in the class and do the assigned homework. Assignments should be submitted on time. No late submissions will be accepted.
