Objectives of the Course Translation requires a deep understanding of both grammar and culture. Translators must know the rules of a language as well as the habits of the people who speak it. And even for the most experienced professionals, confusion and frustration are familiar feelings. However, in the era of migration and second language exchange, translation cannot be studied in isolation from alternative strategies for intercultural communication. At the same time, technologies integrating data-driven MT (machine translation) are making translation available to a wide array of non-professionals. This course introduces current issues in translation and enables students to develop an awareness of the role of linguistic, socio-cultural and technological aspects of translation and interpreting in today's world.
Course Content
Course Methods and Techniques Attendance is a must. There is an absence limit of 30 % of the total course hours (which is 12 hours) in a term. Medical reports are included in these 12 hours. The students who exceed the limit will automatically fail. Partial absence or lateness of 15 minutes or more will be counted as a full class absence. The students should participate in all the activities done in the class and do the assigned homework and presentations. Assignments should be submitted on time. No late submissions will be accepted.
