Objectives of the Course This course introduces students of Translation and Interpreting Studies to the foundational skills required for consecutive interpreting, with a particular focus on active listening, comprehension, and effective note-taking. Designed as a practice-oriented course, it familiarises students with the cognitive processes involved in listening to spoken discourse, identifying key ideas, and recording information efficiently for later recall and reformulation. Peer reviews and sharing ideas are also indispensable elements of this course. Last but not least, the students taking this course are supposed to bring their laptops, as they will be required for the class activities.
Course Content This course introduces note-taking methods and techniques to students and prepare them for further tasks in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.
