Objectives of the Course The main purpose of this course is to explore the current development state of human rights and freedoms in their historical, intellectual, legal and sociological background. The course will involve the examination of the historical development of human rights through the British rights movement, the French Revolution, the Enlightenment Thought, and the American rights movement with their respective and united contributions; the progress recorded by such international organizations as the UN, EU and various other bodies with the legal and jurisdictional achievements they made; the current state of the development of the human rights in Turkish legal and political life; and finally a focused attention to certain human rights like freedom of thought, belief and expression.
Course Content Definition of rights and freedoms, historical development of human rights, British Rights Movement, American Rights Movement, human rights in ancient Chinese and Indian civilizations, French Revolution, American Constitution, Declaration of Human and Citizen Rights, European Declaration of Human Rights, first generation rights, second generation rights, third generation rights, freedom of religion and conscience, freedom of expression
