Objectives of the Course The purpose of this course is to examine the institutional political events, political ideologies, political organizations, state-led and civilian recovery efforts that took place in the last 200 years of the Ottoman state in an effort to understand the historical and intellectual formation of Turkish political life. For this purpose, the factors that shape the political life in the traditional Ottoman society; political movements that pioneered Ottoman modernization; intellectual and organizational background of processes such as Tanzimat, Islahat and constitutionalism; laws and principles adopted in accordance with contemporary principles will be taken under scrutiny.
