Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to develop students' academic and occupational writing skills by providing them with the competencies required for academic research and written communication. The course aims to improve students' ability to analyze academic texts, formulate research topics, evaluate academic resources, summarize and paraphrase information, apply appropriate citation styles, and produce original academic writing in accordance with the principles of academic integrity.
Course Content The course covers the fundamentals of academic writing, academic text organization, advanced sentence structures, academic vocabulary, paragraph and essay development, expository, process, cause-and-effect, problem-solution and argumentative essays, research topic selection, analysis of academic resources, outlining, summarizing, paraphrasing, citation practices, and the stages of academic research writing.
Course Methods and Techniques The course is delivered through lectures, process-based writing activities, academic text analysis, individual and collaborative learning, peer review, instructor feedback, classroom discussions, and technology-supported teaching methods.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 To identify the main components of the writing process such as controlling idea, topic sentence, paragraph and composition,
2 To identify and use basic writing concepts such as support, unity, coherence and outline and presents them verbally within a pair work.
3 To identify and write narrative and descriptive paragraphs.
4 To identify various research topics and have an ability to communicate effectively orally on technical/ occupational matters.
5 To encourage critical examination and analyses of the academic texts and articles by teaching to correctly use the preferred citation style in their field of studies and to express those findings verbally within a logic.
6 To assist students in improving their English language writing skills with major components of academic writing, including skimming, scanning, genre-specific organization and styles, collecting data, paraphrasing, summarization, and citation.
7 To help students improve their academic writing skills to produce an original academic research paper in the student’s field of studies through strategies to avoid plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty.
