Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to develop students' academic reading and writing skills in English by enabling them to critically analyze academic texts, communicate effectively in written academic contexts, and apply the principles of academic integrity in producing and using information. The course also aims to enhance students' language proficiency to support their academic, professional, and personal development.
Course Content The course covers:
identifying main and supporting ideas,
academic text analysis,
making inferences,
contextual vocabulary guessing,
text organization,
response, opinion, problem-solution, cause-effect and argumentative essays,
paraphrasing, summarizing and citation,
evaluating sources,
academic integrity and plagiarism,
critical reading and academic writing skills.
Course Methods and Techniques The course is delivered through lectures, question-and-answer sessions, classroom discussions, individual and collaborative learning activities, academic reading practices, process-based writing activities, peer assessment, instructor feedback, problem-solving activities, practical applications, and technology-supported teaching methods.

2 Distinguish counter-arguments from refutations, and anticipate/predict opposing viewpoints.
3 Recognize a writer's point of view and determine the correct meaning of polysemous words from context.
4 Apply exam-taking strategies (timed skimming/scanning, essay planning) to produce an effective essay under test conditions.
